Week 8: Express Gratitude to 3 People
I wanted this to be random, but also, meaningful. So here it goes.
1. To my derby teammates, in Florida, who took me in one night when I just couldn’t bear to stay in that apartment another second: Thank you. I probably should have never went back, but you gave me a reprieve that I truly needed. And reminded me that even though I was far away from my family and best friends, I wasn’t alone.
2. To my dear friend battling cancer (and I mean battling… what a fucking warrior you are!): Thank you. Thank you for being in my life. Thank you for showing me what it means to fight such a hard battle with strength and grace. For showing me that, even when staring the Grim Reaper right in the face, you can still tell your story to the end and still have a good damn laugh (and a scotch & a bang!). I know that as I type this, you’re going through hell. I know that wishing for a miracle is selfish, but I will wish anyway, though I will also with for peace for you. I am so grateful to know such a wonderful person.
3. This one is kind of silly but also – not. Thank you to the lady in Walmart on the Monday before Christmas who let Mr. Coffee and I (and our three things) go first in the check out line. Such a simple expression of humanity that was not lost on us. Christmas shopping isn’t for the faint of heart, especially four days before Christmas, but that gesture made me smile. And, the chat we had with her about her 500 stocking stuffers was also adorable 🙂
