Oh, what, did you think I’d fallen off the face of the Earth? No such luck 😉 More on how busy we’ve been around the Coffee House (haha, that’s silly) later. Really wanted to jump in on this week’s Show and Tell Tuesday! Enjoy!
Your Life’s Mixtape!
There’s a few songs that immediately remind me of my childhood. Growing up with my Dad – a huge ACDC/ Led Zeppelin/ Black Sabbath fan – my childhood soundtrack might be a little different than you’d think. One of my favorite songs when I was little was the “skeleton song” and I would request it often 😉
I also have FOND FOND FOND memories of riding around in my Great Aunt Winnie’s (short for Edwina) big ol’ luxury car listening to the same cassette tape of 50’s Rock and Roll music. Anytime I hear Fats Domino or Big Bopper – I smile. And know every single word. I grew up in GREENberry Hills though, so we always changed the lyrics to Blueberry Hills 😉 But my favorite has to be Chantilly Lace…. Helloooo Babbyyyyyy:
Elementary and middle school were spent running around my neighborhood with my bestie, Liz. She’s a few years older and always kept me up to date on the ‘happening’ music (much to my father’s dismay!).
Also, we cant forget all those high school years where I discovered my love for singing Celine Dion and Shania Twain at the top my lungs, locked in my bedroom, with my family randomly banging on my door for me to shut up. Hahahaha…. It’s all coming back to me now…. and its hilarious! (Also, currently in bed beside Mr. Coffee while writing this and I’m lip syncing all of these. Hand gestures and all. He probably wishes he was still at puppy class with the dog. Muahahaha)
There was also a lot of spades playing, partying, and listening to some good ol’ Incubus!
My first year of college was spent at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. I thought I wanted to get into marine biology (turns out, no, accounting…total switch lol), but I wasn’t so hot at the Chemistry part of science. I DID find the windsurfing group, and I remember listening to a lot of Dispatch. It was a pretty hippie school. Haha.
After I moved home to finished college up at the local University, I discovered one of my favorite bands – Clutch! I could literally put like ten of their songs on here. I just heart them soooo much. And they’re from Baltimore which means THEY’RE PLAYING IN MY TOWN THIS SUMMER. SO AWESOME. http://www.shileyacres.net/
Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the country as well. I wasn’t raised on it (that would be Elvis and Ozzy!), so I’m not as familiar with the old country classics. But I love me some Johnny Cash, George Straight, Waylon Jennings, etc. I will never turn down a chance to do some Miranda karaoke either. That girl’s my spirit animal!
Another favorite of mine is the great and glorious Rob Zombie. I adore him, his music, and his movies. Captain Spaulding is the ONLY clown I’d be cool to hang out with for a bit. As long as he wasn’t planning on murdering me. Back when I roller derbied – this was my ‘get pumped up before a bout’ song…. go go go, she’s movin it like a demonnnn….
And – I would be remiss to make a post about music without adding in a little Elvis. My mother LOVES Elvis, and I will always have a place for him in the music files of my brain!
Alright – What about you? Whats the mix tape of YOUR life sound like?! Can’t wait to hear (pun intended) all about it! Put a link to your post in the comments!! I’ll be back soon, I promise!
