This week’s prompt is 5 Fandoms I’m Thankful For….
Supernatural. Of course, Dean and Sam go first. How do I explain my love for this show? I remember the first time someone said “I think you’ll like this” and I was like “A TNT show about hunters? Pretty sure that just can’t be good”. I gave in, watched an episode. And then another and then another and then like 5 whole seasons in two weeks. I love that they also are in their own fandom. They love the show and their fans just as much as we love them. And plus: this show has anything and everything you could want. Zombies? Check. Demons? Check. Hot hunter guys? Check. Badass Car? Check. etc etc etc..
The Boondock Saints. My very first fandom. My roommate in college introduced me to this movie and I was hookedddd. We even dressed up as the brothers for Halloween – down to memorizing the court room scene line by line and randomly reciting it all over campus. Good times. My love for Norman Reedus began wayyyy before The Walking Dead!
Firefly/Serenity. Such a short life, but such a vibrant one. Browncoats forever. I don’t even have anymore to say – you either get it or you don’t.
Horror Movie Fandom. Having lived in Orlando, I got to experience the amazingness that is Spooky Empire. Both their Mayhem & the actual Spooky Halloween weekend are mind-blowing. The cosplays, the media guests, the vendors, the Q&As… its such a great time!!! I need to go back very soon!!! Go check out their albums on facebook and you can see how much fun everyone has and the gorgeous cosplays that people come in! (Um, also, I have Doug Bradley’s signature on a Hellraiser necklace (my derby name was Harley Hellrazer) and I got my picture with Jason Mewes. #winning). Also – Mr. Coffee was a little scared when I was like LETS WATCH ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES. And then we watched The Devil’s Rejects and he was like uh…….. hahaha.
The Walking Dead. Really, who would YOU be in the zombie apocalypse? That’s what this whole show makes you think. Badass (and sometimes crazy) Rick Grimes? Daryl Dixon? Michonne? Maggie? That’s actually who I relate to the most – Maggie. Little bit tomboy, very much devoted to her family and Glenn, a voice of reason (not unlike her father).
It was really hard to choose TWD as the final one so here are my honorable mentions: Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars.
