One of the blogs I read, Your Friend, Brittany, is doing a 52 Weeks of Gratitude Challenge and I thought that was a really great idea. Originally from Local Adventurer, the following set of prompts guides you through a year long journey of learning to be more gracious.
#1 Why Start This Challenge?
When I saw this, I knew immediately that it was a challenge I needed to complete. I can sometimes get caught up in the negativity around me and forget to be thankful for all of the positive things. Don’t get me wrong – I am completely in love with my life and wouldn’t trade it for the world. But I sometimes forget to be vocal to others and myself about why I do love this life so much.
At my new job, we have 9AM meetings every morning. We say the pledge, say our mission statement, and then someone reads a devotional. And then yes, we sing the company song. Don’t laugh – I pretty much think its great (unless its a day I’m picked to ‘start’ the song). As someone who completely believes in God, and the Bible, and all that comes along with that – but doesn’t regularly go to church- the devotionals have been kind of good for me. And, sometimes, its like the man upstairs was like “Here, I had this one picked for you this morning”. The other morning, after hearing about a really bad situation a friend was going through, I almost cried.
What I’m trying to get to, is that somewhere along the way I lost a little of my spirituality. The devotionals reminded me of that and then when this challenge popped up, I knew it would be an awesome exercise. So – here’s to be more grateful and more positive in my life. Out with the negativity, in the awesome-sauce-ness.
(Also – I hope everyone has a great Labor Day extended weekend! Mr. Coffee’s off to Colorado to murder some delicious elk for us to eat over the next year, so I’ve been cleaning, organizing, and hanging out with the pup today. Tomorrow, I see a bff, a little booze, and some hot tub time (really wanted to say machine here…) in my future. Even though I’ll probably pass out, cause hot tubs make me nauseous, but whatevs.)
